The Psoriasis Research and Treatment Center headed by PD Dr. med. Robert Sabat is an interdisciplinary center of the Institute of Medical Immunology and the Department of Dermatology, Venereology and Allergology of the Charité.
The center is dedicated to research of the pathogenesis and development of innovative therapy concepts for chronic inflammatory skin diseases.

The Psoriasis Research and Treatment Center is an interdisciplinary unit of the Institute of Medical Immunology and the Department of Dermatology, Venereology and Allergology (Dermatological clinic) of the Charité. Its main focus is on chronic inflammatory skin diseases. In addition to various forms of Psoriasis, Acne inversa (also known as Hidradenitis suppurativa) and Pityriasis rubra pilaris are of primary research interest.
The main goals are to elucidate the pathogenesis of the diseases and to develop innovative therapeutic concepts. The easily accessible organ skin is considered a model system for the investigation of inflammatory processes, the findings of which can be used for the understanding of chronic inflammatory diseases of other organs.
The center currently employs 18 colleagues comprising both a scientific and clinical backgrounds. Their interdisciplinary cooperation provides a high degree of synergistic and translational work. The center has earned an internationally visible position especially through its fundamental research on the role of cytokines in the development and maintenance of inflammatory skin alterations.
